Beautiful full size violin made in Germany by the Wolff Brothers in 1886, model no 2405. Nicely figured maple back, spruce belly, recently restored and set up ready to play. Excellent condition, makes a lovely sound, a perfect student instrument. Comes with gorgeous old leather case but the handle is broken and will need repair, and a working bow, also good condition. Valued by Bristol Violin shop at £2000 for insurance purposes.
The Wolff Brothers were a prolific violin manufacturing company at the end of the 19th century, based in Kreuznach (Rhenish-Prussia) and very popular in the UK market. Leopold Wolff was conductor of the Kur Orchestra at Bad Münster, and Ferdinand was the other brother. Factory manufacturing for violins was still a very young industry at that time, and the process was still completed largely by hand, using very little mechanization. Wolff Bros still enjoys an excellent reputation today, and this is a fine example of the instruments they produced.
