Viola by S D McLean 1968 16 inches

This viola is labelled viola 6, dated 1968 by S D McLean, violin maker and repairer. The body length is 15 ¾” long and the ribs are 4 ½ cm deep. The varnish is a rich chestnut colour that has roughened slightly in places around the ribs. The corners are square and the pegs are well-fitted and a set of Dominant strings are fitted.

This is a fine, sound instrument that would suit a young professional. It has a good tone, with good C string.  The reason for sale is that the player has downsized due to neck problems. Included is a strong leather-covered case which has three good pockets and a string tube holder.

When sent to the new owner, for safety reasons, the bridge will be removed. The case is exceptionally heavy (4.5 kg), therefore protective, and the postage and packing will reflect this.
